The top LGBTQI wedding trends

What is the difference between a “traditional” wedding and a LGBTQI wedding? Absolutely nothing! Love is love! I am a big supporter of LGBTQI and believe wholeheartedly that anyone can marry no matter what gender they are. I would love to be the celebrant in helping plan your dream wedding, no matter who you are.

LGBTQI

That said, there are still some celebrants who may choose not to marry same-sex marriages. These celebrants can often be identified as they will advertise as ‘religious marriage celebrants’ instead of ‘civil marriage celebrants.’

Without further ado (or ‘I do’, as we say in the wedding-biz), here are my top LGBTQI wedding trends:

1. Throw an after party

No one parties as hard as the gays. Once all the obligatory guests have left and you’ve given Great Aunt Sue her final kiss on the cheek goodbye, kick the party into 2nd gear! Keep the drinks coming, the music pumping until the wee hours of the morning with a reception after-party.

2. Have the entire bridal party matching

Whether you have groomsmaids, bridesmaids, bridesmen or groomsmen, have everyone rocking the same thing. It will look magical in photos!

3. Have a rainbow cake

Show off your gay pride with a surprise layered rainbow cake. The guests will love it. Bonus points for same sex cake toppers!

4. Walk down the aisle together

No need for one of you to be waiting at the end of the aisle - just go down together. Send the bridal party in first, then make your grand entrance. If any parents are feeling left-out, have them come down the aisle too. There are no limits on the number of people!

5. Second outfits all round

Often it is the femme bride getting out of her enormous gown into her dancing gown between the ceremony and reception. Times are a’changing and now grooms can get out of their three-piece suits and into their party shirts to really cut loose on the dance floor.

6. Ceremony signs

When people walk in it’s always been the bride’s guests on the left and the groom’s on the right. Ditch that and throw up a sign saying:

“Pick a seat, not a side, either way you’re here for a bride!”
